Today’s featured artist is Jason Boehmer with her submission titled “Metamorphosis”.
“Metamorphosis” is a powerful visual representation of the difficult journey to lung transplant by a patient with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD). The artwork depicts a lady with PCD in her anguish as she casts off her old damaged lungs and flings them with her hands. As her old tattered lungs soar away from her hands they transform into a butterfly, a symbol of hope and transformation. While lung transplants in primary ciliary dyskinesia care are not curative, transplants do provide the patient with some ease of breathing, for possibly the very first time in their lives. However the path to transplant is a long and arduous one, full of its own inherent issues and struggles. Transplants journeys are tough.
The PCD Artist Project is a collaborative effort by artist to raise awareness for PCD or primary ciliary dyskinesia and support the PCD Smiles program. Each artist who submitted art work to the project either has PCD or has a PCD family member.
