Random Fact Friday; 1 July, 2022
Bronchiectasis is a description of a specific type of airway damage, characterized by airways that have become scarred and overly dilated allowing mucus to pool and become infected. It is considered to be irreversible in almost all cases (there are reports of bronchiectasis resolving, but it is unclear that the diagnosis was made correctly to begin with) and is often progressive. Over time, it can lead to respiratory failure. Bronchiectasis is believed to occur because of something else--not to be a distinct diagnosis on its own.” ~ Michele Manion - US PCD Foundation
